School Eco-Council at Cefn Glas Infants

Our pupils care deeply about environmental issues and have a strong desire to actively protect our planet. The pupils develop skills and knowledge to play an active role in protecting our environment now and throughout their lifetime.

Our whole school engages with the importance of environmental issues and our pupils understand that environmental actions can be enjoyable and rewarding.  Some of our activities throughout the year are; a super fun Eco Week, making New Year Eco-Resolutions, creating purposefully beautiful school grounds to improve our biodiversity, learning to reduce, reuse and recycle, creating bug hotels and hedgehog hideaways and even learning about The Global Goals. As a school, we try hard to use less energy and produce less waste. We support local charities such as Bridgend Food Bank and have raised lots of money from recycling old clothes with Rags to Riches.  We understand that the environment has so much to offer and here at Cefn Glas Infants we are constantly evolving our outdoor areas! In 2023, we were successfully awarded the Keep Wales Tidy Local Places for Nature Food Growing Package. This, amongst other things, has allowed each year group to have their very own raised bed to grow their our own fruit and vegetables to taste, eat and cook with in our learning kitchen. The project was a huge community effort and we feel very lucky to have had so much support.

At Cefn Glas Infants School we have now achieved our 7th Platinum Eco Schools award and are now working towards our 8th award. 

In 2023, we were very proud to be nominated and WIN the Keep Wales Tidy, Eco Schools Innovation Award.
